Ireland’s “so called friends” in the EU and even in the US were of little help during Ireland’s economic crisis,’ says Eamon Delaney ‘but it was the UK which came through with “a really generous bail-out. There is a feeling of really goodwill toward the UK now, which was underlined by the strong relationship exhibited by the recent photo call involving both premiers at Downing Street.” Mr Delaney added that the Irish Republic “should not be complacent” but should take the Commonwealth issue seriously in the interests of political stability.
