Spending guidelines are reasonable for those who are getting a mortgage let off

Irish Independent 3 April 2013

The real anger about our economic crisis is not just the sense of betrayal and mismanagement, but also of unfairness, in how the crisis has impacted and in how it is being dealt with. It is unfair that we have to bail out the gambling of the banks and unfair that property developers can get ‘rescued’ by NAMA while those in personal mortgages don’t. However, now we are in danger of creating a new sense of unfairness, and one which is possibly more destructive and pits neighbour against neighbour. And that is that some will be given a let off on their mortgage and yet retain a standard of living that those still paying can only dream of.
